Before serving his mandatory military duty, J-Hope, a K-pop superstar and member of BTS, is preparing to release his solo single “On the Street” on March 3.

The song is a blend of lo-fi hip-hop and chill-out music, with J-Hope contributing to the composition and lyrics to add a personal touch and messages of hope and warmth.

The title holds a dual meaning, representing J-Hope’s dream of becoming an artist on the street and walking down the street with his fans worldwide.

J-Hope released his first solo album, “Jack in the Box,” in July 2022, and made history as the first Korean musician to headline Lollapalooza as a solo artist.

Military duty is compulsory for all able-bodied men in South Korea between the ages of 18 and 28.

“I have been planning this since last year. After Jin started his service, I was contemplating on when to enlist and I thought it would be better to get it done as soon as possible,” said J-Hope on Weverse, an online fan communication platform.

“Don’t be sad because it does not mean I am starting military service immediately. Beforehand, I will do my best to shoot many things and there will be a lot to show,” J-Hope added.

He announced his enlistment to fulfill his military duty on Weverse, stating that he had been planning it since last year, and assured fans that there would be much to show before his enlistment.

Jin of BTS, the oldest member, began his military service in December 2022 and gave J-Hope advice after his enlistment announcement. Fans are asked to continue supporting J-Hope until he completes his military service, making him the second member of BTS to begin military service.
