Singer IU and Jungkook of boy band BTS were named on Rolling Stone’s list of “Greatest Singers of All Time.” They were the only K-pop singers on the list revealed Monday.

Two-hundred singers from all regions and generations were included, such as Aretha Franklin, who was ranked at No. 1, followed by Whitney Houston, Sam Cooke, Billie Holiday and Mariah Carey.

The two Korean singers were both praised for their vocals. IU landed at No. 135 and Jungkook at No. 191.

“Since her 2020 breakout hit ‘Good Day’ [which garnered deserved praise for its magnificent three-note climax], IU has become one of the moist highly-regarded vocalists in South Korean music,” wrote the Rolling Stones.

“Despite having a soft voice, she has a wide range, a powerful delivery and a versatility that’s allowed her to move easily form bossa nova to Nineties chamber pop and from jazz to ballads.”

Jungkook was described as “the multifaceted youngest member of BTS” by the magazine.

“He’s a strong performer, written several songs and is known to be extremely hardworking and humble despite the success he’s experienced at such an early age,” the article said.

“He hits high notes with ease and harmonies with his members effortlessly, always giving his audience new ad-libs and unexpected vocal riffs to keep things interesting, from his official solo tracks like ‘Euphoria’ to the covers he uploads for fans on BTS’s SoundCloud.”
