Historic Primetime Broadcast

According to producer CJ ENM, this marks the first time a K-pop performance special will be broadcast live in primetime on national television in the United States.

The producer highlighted this milestone as “a testament to the genre’s explosive global growth and the unwavering dedication of its fans.” This airing is part of a licensing agreement between CJ ENM and The CW.

Event Details and Activities

KCON, a festival dedicated to all things K-pop and its fans, will take place from July 26 to July 28 at the Los Angeles Convention Center and Crypto.com Arena.

The three-day event features fan activities, live performances, and nightly concerts promoted under the banner “M Countdown,” a popular weekly South Korean live music show aired on CJ ENM’s music channel Mnet.

KCON’s Global Expansion

First launched in 2012, KCON expanded its reach by hosting events in Hong Kong and Japan, and it will soon be in Germany this September.

“We are beyond excited to partner with The CW to bring the electrifying ‘M Countdown’ at KCON L.A. 2024 live to national primetime television,” said CJ ENM Head of Music Entertainment Harry H.K. Shin in a statement. “This historic broadcast is a testament to the incredible community of K-pop fans who have made these groups global sensations.”
