According to industry sources, Blackpink will change management to The Black Label, a subsidiary of YG Entertainment.
Four-member YG girl group will leave to join The Black Label, an industry source told The Korea Herald on Friday, with deal talks completed earlier this year. Black Label is led by Teddy, a creative director, and songwriter who has collaborated with Blackpink since their debut.
A former YG in-house producer, Teddy co-founded The Black Label in 2016 and has since produced and written songs for various YG artists including Jinusean, Seven, Big Bang, 2NE1, Lee Hi, Blackpink, and Jeon So Mi. Big Bang’s Sun, who also recently signed with The Black Label, said his decision was based on his strong trust in the producer and his years of teamwork.
When asked if Blackpink would merge with The Black Label, a YG official said, “I can’t confirm anything about this news. What I can say is that our contracts with the members are not over yet. It’s hard to be sure that they are in whether they will sign with The Black Label after the contract ends.”
Industry insiders have been keeping a close eye on Blackpink’s next move, as YG’s deal with the group, which debuted in 2016, expires next year. The standard length of an exclusive contract between an agency and an artist is seven years.
Blackpink released their second full-length album Born Pink in September and are currently on a world tour, recently wrapping up stages in North America and Europe. The group will begin the Asia and Oceania portion of the tour next year.
